Building Sustainable Communities through Education and Outreach

Sustainable community development starts at the local level. The Program for Resource Efficient Communities (PREC) works closely with local government to provide educational workshops on sustainability, as well oversee the implementation of resource efficiency strategies and sustainable design practices.

The PREC maintains that the best way to facilitate an integrative, environmentally conscious community is through education, collaboration, and outreach. The PREC influences the development of these communities and the conservation of their surrounding ecological systems by contributing expert knowledge, training and educational resources from the University of Florida. The PREC also helps review residential plans to help developers consider the best ways to incorporate “green” design elements to help reduce environmental degradation as well as energy and water consumption.
