The "GrowSmart" Campaign
Due to the drought conditions that Florida is currently experiencing, it is very important for homeowners and gardeners to water their yards responsibly and use drought-tolerant plants wherever possible.
Being able to identify and select Florida-friendly plants allows homeowners and gardeners to use less potable water on lawns and landscaping while still maintaining beautiful yards during water restrictions.
The Palm Beach County Extension office, the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD), and the Florida Nursery, Growers, and Landscape Association (FNGLA) have teamed up to launch "GrowSmart," a public awareness campaign that encourages water-wise landscaping and promotes the Florida Yards & Neighborhoods' principles of "right plant, right place."
These organizations have produced several television public service announcements (PSAs) that focus on sensible sprinkling, water-saving gardening principles, and other useful lawn and plant tips.
Visit FNGLA.org to view the thirty-second PSAs, and look for them on local television stations.
To learn more about Florida-friendly gardening and landscaping, visit your county Extension office and the Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Program website. Look for "GrowSmart" materials at retail garden centers.
