The Pinellas Food Systems Working Group is for local organizations and individuals who are concerned about the resilience and accessibility of fresh food and local business in Pinellas County. Fresh food and robust community food systems are essential for community health and enable citizens to succeed in many other areas of life. We strive for collective impact in building community food systems that make healthy, fresh, local food and preventive health the norm.
A collaborative hands-on internship experience in which students work with community organizations to learn about local and global food systems while building valuable leadership skills. The internship focuses on several areas in the food system: Food Production, Distribution, Food Access, Food Justice, Education, Business, Policy, and Resource Recovery. Through instruction with a community organization site supervisor, students are encouraged to develop expertise in the most relevant area of the food system for them, yet also utilize systems thinking to engage and consider the food system as a whole. Interns will have weekly team site experiences as well as design, build, and present on a capstone project that enhances one or more aspects of the food system in Pinellas County under the guidance of their site supervisor.
