Food Safety and Quality

UF/IFAS Extension Bay County’s Food Safety and Quality Program is dedicated to providing training which enables food managers and staff to offer Bay County consumers food that is prepared in a clean and safe environment. The following programs are offered through the UF/IFAS Bay County Extension Office.

ServSafe®

The ServSafe® training is offered every month and includes comprehensive instruction on the latest food safety regulations and industry standards. After completing the training successfully, participants receive a Certificate of Achievement from the University of Florida Food Safety and Quality Program.

Once you pass the ServSafe® Manager’s Exam, you will earn a national certification valid for five years, with certificates mailed approximately two weeks after the exam. The ServSafe® curriculum and exam are developed by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation, and certification is required in Florida for food managers in establishments licensed by state regulatory agencies.

Food Safety Foodhandlers Program

This four-hour training provides essential food safety information for foodhandlers working in food service facilities. The program focuses on proper handling techniques and sanitation practices to prevent foodborne illness. Participants receive a certificate valid for three years, and agencies or organizations can contact the Extension office to schedule classes.  

Food Preservation

We also offer seasonal classes and workshops on safe food preservation methods, including canning jams, jellies, pickles, fruits, vegetables, and meats, as well as freezing and drying techniques. These classes are typically held during late spring and summer, and you can contact the Extension office for dates and times.
