The Florida-Friendly Landscaping Program

UF/IFAS Extension Nassau County’s horticulture program brings Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ (FFL) principles to life through hands-on education and outreach tailored to local needs. We empower residents, communities, and green-industry professionals with sustainable landscaping practices that conserve water, protect natural resources, and enhance outdoor spaces. As part of the statewide FFL initiative, our programming reflects Nassau County’s unique climate, soils, and coastal ecosystems. Whether you're managing a backyard garden or a large landscape, we offer science-based guidance to help you grow smart in Florida.

FFL for Home Landscapes

We help homeowners create attractive, low-maintenance landscapes that conserve water and protect local waterways. Our workshops, site visits, and resources are tailored to Nassau County’s unique growing conditions.

FFL for Community Landscapes

We partner with communities and HOAs to implement Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ principles in common areas and neighborhood guidelines. Our guidance supports sustainable design, long-term maintenance, and compliance with Florida statutes.

FFL for Landscape Professionals

We train landscape professionals in environmentally sound practices through the Green Industries Best Management Practices (GI-BMP) program and pesticide training. Certification helps businesses meet state requirements and serve clients more sustainably.
