About the Florida-Friendly Landscaping Program
UF/IFAS Extension Nassau County's Environmental Horticulture Extension agent provides Nassau County homeowners with information on Florida-Friendly Landscape plants (FFL), including lawn care, plant selection, water conservation, insect and disease management through a variety of workshops. Master Gardener volunteers also work with schools, training Junior Master Gardeners on projects such as community gardens. They provide thousands of hours of service to the local community. Volunteers also answer questions and conduct soil pH tests in county offices while creating educational opportunities to expand the educational mission of UF/IFAS.
The FFL Program is centered around nine principles:
- Right Plant, Right Place
- Water Efficienctly
- Fertilize Appropriately
- Mulch
- Attract Wildlife
- Manage Yard Pests Responsibly
- Recycle
- Reduce Stormwater Runoff
- Protect the Waterfront
The FFL Program isn't just for homeowners - it is for every Floridian engaged in any landscape management or decision making. In Nassau County, we provide resources:
