Who We Are

The Cooperative Extension Service is a nationwide program established by the Smith-Lever Act of 1914. It operates as a partnership between state land-grant universities, the USDA, and county governments, with each contributing to the planning, funding, and implementation of extension programs.

In Union County, we work closely with the Union County Board of County Commissioners to deliver educational programs that address local needs. Our initiatives are shaped by input from the Agriculture, Family & Consumer Sciences, 4-H Youth, and Community Sciences Program Advisory Committees, with local representatives guiding and supporting Extension staff under the University of Florida.

What We Do

Union County Extension provides education and hands-on training to help residents improve their skills in agriculture, horticulture, and natural resource management. We offer a Pesticide Applicator Academy, guiding individuals through the process of becoming licensed and certified in pesticide application. Additionally, our Homeowner Horticulture Series teaches residents how to grow vegetable gardens, maintain landscapes, care for fruit trees, and achieve a beautiful, healthy lawn through proper pruning and maintenance.

Beyond land-based programs, we also provide resources for outdoor recreation and safety. Residents can access information on hunting and fishing licenses, watercraft safety, and proper boating navigation. Through workshops and expert guidance, we empower community members to make informed decisions that enhance their homes, properties, and outdoor experiences.

In addition, we are committed to strengthening the community through youth development and family education. Our 4-H Youth Development Program equips young people with leadership and life skills through hands-on learning experiences.
