Are you a passionate, driven individual with knowledge to share? We are always interested in recruiting new volunteers to become our 4-H leaders. Leaders can commit to an annual club, or dip their toe in the water with a six week western program/spin club. Because leading any club is a big responsibility, please first call our office at 863-674-4092 and ask to speak to either Sonja Crawford (4-H Coordinator), Gwendolyn Ash (4-H Program Assistant) or Liz Shaw (Eastern 4-H Program Assistant). Our ongoing clubs change depending on what our leaders and members are interested in doing. Here is what we currently have available.

This is the horse club for youth to get started in their equine adventures. Due to regulations, Peewees are not allowed to touch the horses, but there is still a lot to learn and do to become an expert on horse behavior and care. Leader: Julia Sutherland

Members will receive hands-on experience caring for and working with horses- including reading horse body language, training, riding, safety, and learning about nutrition, anatomy and health. You will have the opportunity to participate in parades, and complete a 100-day project training a wild horse with a show at the end! Additional meetings may be scheduled to meet at the LaBelle Rodeo Grounds.

Pigskin and Cowhide Classic currently focuses on swine and beef projects. Exhibitors will learn proper care, nutrition, housing and showmanship skills for the 4-H projects- all while having fun! We also incorporate community projects that teach giving back to the community that supports them.

Learn how to show and sale a market swine at the Hendry County Fair or South Florida Fair in West Palm Beach. Topics include selecting a market swine, items to get started, breeds, meat production, health, and husbandry. Members will have the opportunity to participate in county and/or state showmanship clinics and prospect shows.

A countywide club to learn about archery, rifles, and shotguns. The first meeting will be held at the LaBelle Extension Office and you will receive your paperwork, rules, and other essentials, before going to the range. All other meetings will be held at the Pioneer Sheriff Range in Clewiston at 4:00 pm. Transportation (space limited) to the range is available from the Hendry County Extension Office at 3:30 pm.

The Florida Youth Naturalist Program (FYNP) is a new program for young nature enthusiasts interested in learning more about Florida’s environment. Inspired by the Florida Master Naturalist program, this youth program takes kids aged 8 to 18 on a journey through Florida’s ecosystems, from the uplands, through freshwater, and to the coast. This 24 hour program includes 10 experiential lessons with hands-on activities, journaling, field trips ideas and more!
