Livestock and Forages

The major goal of the Livestock and Pasture program is to coordinate Extension and research activities for enhanced livestock and forage production, with an emphasis on water quality and profitability, and to disseminate the information to producers in Brevard County. Florida's livestock industry is a huge part of the economy, contributing over $1.5 billion annually.

  • Beef
    The beef industry in Florida provides not only food, but also many jobs.
  • Florida Dairy Extension

  • Goats
    Goats in Florida are raised for their milk and meat.
  • Horses
    More than 70% of Florida's 500,000 horses are used for competition and recreation.
  • Poultry
    The Florida poultry industry centers on chickens, raised both for meat and eggs.
  • Swine
    Florida's swine number about 100,000.
  • Other Livestock
    Rabbits, sheep, emu, and llamas are raised for their meat, skin, and other products.
  • UF Veterinary Extension
    The goal of veterinary Extension is outreach and education by providing animal health leadership and information resources to Florida's various commodity groups, the private sector, county Extension faculty, and university faculty.
