Agriculture
.....
The Agricultural Center is an information and teaching center. Our goals are: To provide the farmers and residents of St Johns County with current research information and the best management practices for raising crops and livestock; to assist the University of Florida and its research centers in determining needs of the farm community; and to cooperate with all farmers and residents of St Johns County to preserve the beauty and the quality of our natural resources.
Production Agriculture
Florida's livestock industry is a huge part of the economy, contributing over $1.5 billion annually. The production agriculture program provides producers with up-to-date management strategies related to livestock and forage production.
Commercial Agriculture
The agricultural industry in Florida is in constant threat of economic losses from plant disease, insects, weed problems, and invasive species. Major crops in the Tri-County Agricultural Area are, and have historically been, potato and cabbage; however current growers in the area are seeking alternative cropping systems to stay sustainable.
Pesticide Licenses
Farmers and other professionals with pesticide applicator licenses must maintain and recertify those licenses, as well as increase their knowledge and safety standards.
