UF/IFAS Extension St. Johns County is a partnership between the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) and the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners.  Our residents are supported with research-based solutions to many of your everyday problems.  We can help you save water, shop smarter, eat healthier, identify your plant problems, and help prepare our youth for adulthood. 

In doing this, we offer a variety of programs.  To find out more information about a specific program or to sign up, please click the link below.  Many of our programs are offered virtually.


Living on a Few Acres - St. Johns County

When:  The 3rd Thursday of the month from 6 - 7 p.m.

Growing Citrus in Northeast Florida:  Citrus Greening Update

Learn the basics of growing citrus in this era of Citrus Greening. We will provide a general overview of Citrus Greening, including a brief timeline of the progression of the disease, the bacteria that causes the disease, and the vector that transports the bacteria. We will also learn what citrus greening looks like and how to identify symptoms of the disease on leaves and fruit, as well as possible solutions and preventative measures to mitigate the effects of the disease.


Gardening with Raised Beds

Join us to learn about different ways to start above ground gardens from home, including raised beds, container gardens, and small-scale hydroponics. We will cover recommended growing practices for popular vegetables and herbs. Above ground gardening is a great option for people who don’t have a lot of space or are renting.


Green Industry Best Management Practices

This workshop is designed to provide training in Best Management Practices (BMPs) for professionals working in the lawn and landscape industry. The BMPs are focused on reducing non-point source pollution resulting from fertilizer application. At the end of this training you will be given a post-test, which if successfully passed, will provide you with a GI-BMP certificate of completion. This certificate is required in order to apply to FDACS for your Urban Landscape Commercial Fertilizer Certificate, which is required by Florida Statute for anyone applying fertilizer for profit in Florida


Limited Commercial Landscape Maintenance Training

When: June 21, 2024 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

The Limited Commercial Landscape Maintenance/LCLM license requires this 6-hour training, proof of insurance, and a passing exam score. With the LCLM license, you can apply caution-labeled pesticides (including herbicides) to ornamental plant beds for your commercial clients. To decide whether the LCLM license is for you, check out the UF/IFAS publication, “Finding the Correct Pesticide Applicator License in Florida“. It offers a helpful key and reference sheets for each license. This class provides the required 6 hour training for LCLM. You will need to schedule your exam separately for a later date.
