Who We Are
Welcome to the UF/IFAS Extension Office in Suwannee County. From learning principles of proper nutrition to growing profitable crops, to helping youth develop leadership skills and self-esteem, Suwannee County's Extension Service offers a wealth of information for the citizens of our county.
Suwannee County/University of Florida Extension is part of a nationwide network of community educational centers providing non-biased, research-based information to America's citizens. It is based on the Federal Land-Grant concept established in the early 1900s to 'extend' university resources out to the people where they live. Locally, Extension is a cooperative partnership between your Suwannee County Government and the University of Florida in Gainesville. Our educational programs are directed at broad national and state concerns, as well as issues specific to Suwannee County with locally determined - and citizen influenced - priorities.
Extension is here to serve as a bridge between the research labs throughout the state and our community by interpreting, demonstrating, and implementing knowledge. Our program areas share significant common goals in helping citizens to conserve resources, protect the natural and home environments, and generally improve their lives and community.
This website is designed to help you access those local Extension program areas that can provide information you can apply to your life here in Suwannee County.
