Escambia County Master Gardeners

Volunteer Mission

The Escambia County Master Gardener volunteer program helps the Escambia County Extension Service teach the community about sound gardening and environmental practices. Volunteers use research‑based information to help people learn how to care for plants in healthy and sustainable ways.

Community Educational Outreach

Volunteers plan and teach interesting, hands‑on classes for the public on many topics, such as pests, local plants, and Florida‑friendly gardening. Check our homepage calendar to sign up for a class at the Extension office or at locations around the community.

Volunteers also make educational materials and videos on seasonal topics to introduce new plants or help people solve common landscape problems.

Demonstration Gardens

Volunteers care for nine different garden areas that show plants that grow well in Escambia County and demonstrate common gardening practices. The gardens also show examples of problems that often happen in our area. Many classes use these gardens to teach both homeowners and professionals. The gardens are open to the public Monday–Friday from 8:00 to 4:30 and during special events.

Plant Diagnostics and Recommendations

Master Gardeners help the public figure out what is wrong with their plants and what steps they can take to make them healthier. They also give advice about choosing the right plants. You can get recommendations in the office, by phone, or at plant clinics.

Youth Education

Volunteers lead learning activities about gardening and environmental science for youth in schools and the community.
