Who We Are

The Extension Service began in 1914 because of the Smith‑Lever Act. It helps people learn how to make good choices, use what they know, take care of the environment, manage money, and become leaders. Programs are created by listening to ideas from citizens, counties, and universities.

Mission

The mission of UF/IFAS is to discover new and helpful ideas about farming, people, and the environment—and to share that knowledge so everyone can live healthier, better lives.

Vision

The vision of UF/IFAS is to grow strong knowledge and new technology to:

  • Help Florida’s food and farming industries succeed, compete, and stay sustainable.
  • Protect nature and take good care of the environment.
  • Support people as they learn new skills and reach their full potential.
  • Make life better for people and communities everywhere.
