Commercial Horticulture Agent - Meet Your Agent
Dr. Tatiana Sanchez - UF/IFAS Extension - Alachua County
I am Tatiana Sanchez, the Commercial Horticulture Extension Agent, at the UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office. I am originally from Colombia, where I earned by Bachelor's Degree in Biology. I chose to pursue my graduated studies in Florida as its geographical location allows for a wide variety of crops and production systems to learn about. I graduated in 2014 with a Doctorate in Plant Medicine from the University of Florida, where I learned to identify and manage a variety of issues affecting plant health including insect pests, diseases, nematodes and nutritional deficiencies. During my graduate studies, I had the opportunity to work for an agrichemical company on efficacy trials for disease and pest control by using plant activators, biologicals and pesticides. Through this experience, I became aquainted to work with a wide array of diseaes and pests affecting vegetable crops.
Before joining UF/IFAS Extension, I worked as a postdoctoral associate in the Department of Plant Pathology at UF investigating Fusarium wilt affecting watermelon production in North Central Florida. This experience led me to work closely with growers which inceased my understanding of agricultural production systems and prompted me to develop a passion for extension.
My current job focuses on assisting growers in production of their horticultural crops. I also offer educational events for my clientele to comply with licensing/certification and to increase knowledge in multiple areas related to the production of horticultural crops and the green industry. In addition, I serve as the newsletter editor for the Florida State Horticultural Society (FSHS).
I am looking forward to helping you in resolving any issues you may encounter in commercial horticulture. Please, don't hestitate to contact me with your questons.
