Nutrition & Health

Nutrition and Health helps people live better by eating healthy foods and staying active. Not getting enough exercise can cause health problems and long-term diseases. Adults should aim for at least 150 minutes of exercise each week and do strength training 2–3 times per week. Our programs offer classes on nutrition and exercise to help you learn new ways to stay healthy.

Series Based Classes

  • Build Your Bones (6 Classes)
    • Learn how your bones work and why bone health is important
    • Find out which nutrients make bones strong (like calcium, vitamin D, magnesium, and protein)
    • Discover foods that help keep bones healthy
    • Try activities that build and protect bones (like walking, lifting weights, or resistance exercises)
  • Let’s Walk Florida (6 or 10 Classes)
    • A 6–10 week program to help you make walking part of your day
    • Set your own goals and track your progress
    • Get weekly tips on nutrition, hydration, motivation, and preventing injuries
    • Join group walks, online challenges, or go at your own pace
  • Taste of Cultures (4 Classes)
    • Hands-on cooking classes with recipes from around the world
    • Learn how certain foods can help prevent cancer and lower blood pressure
    • Explore how culture shapes what we eat
  • Cooking Up Health: The Mediterranean Way
    • Learn how to follow a Mediterranean-style eating plan to improve health and prevent disease
    • Build balanced meals with fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins
    • Get meal planning, shopping, and cooking tips for busy schedules
  • Dining with Diabetes (4 Classes)
    • Watch cooking demonstrations with simple, diabetes-friendly recipes
    • Understand how carbohydrates affect blood sugar
    • Learn how diet and exercise can help manage diabetes

Certification Classes

  • ServSafe® Food Protection Manager (6-8 hour Class)
    • Learn science-based food safety skills to prevent foodborne illness
    • Includes the official ServSafe® exam and study materials
    • Certification is valid for 5 years and approved by the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation (DBPR)
  • SafeStaff® Food Handler Training
    • Includes the official SafeStaff® workbook and a 3-year completion certificate
