Commercial Urban Horticulture

The Commercial Urban Horticulture Program provides educational services that support certification and licensor programs for various commercial clientele. Clientele groups include commercial landscape and interiorscape personnel, landscape architects & designers, arborists, turfgrass managers and public agencies. Some of the various workshops and seminars offered deal with I.P.M. for landscape and nursery personnel, landscape preparation & maintenance, proper tree pruning, ISA arborist certification, pesticide application and safety and sports turf managers.

Meet the Commercial Urban Horticulture Agent

Henry Mayer has been the UF/IFAS Commercial Urban Horticulture Extension Agent IV in Miami-Dade County since 2003. He received his BS in Agricultural Engineering from the Venezuelan Central University (UCV) in 1982. In 2010, he received his MS degree from the University of Florida Soil and Water Science Department. He is a certified arborist, a former member of the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Hispanic Committee and has the TRAQ and the PPQ certifications.  He is a board member of the Landscape Inspectors Association of Florida (LIAF) Miami-Dade Chapter and a former board member of the Florida Urban Forestry Council (FUFC). He conducted numerous workshops for the commercial landscape industry on tree maintenance, green industry best management practices, tree pruning, plant installation and selection, Florida grades and standards, and related subjects.  He is the author of many publications and blogs related to landscape, https://sfyl.ifas.ufl.edu/miami-dade/
