Who We Are

Welcome! We hope you find helpful, up-to-date information here. Broward County Extension brings you useful knowledge from experts at the University of Florida. We have helped millions of people in Broward County. We give them research-based ideas. These ideas help them improve their homes, jobs, and neighborhoods.

UF/IFAS Extension offers programs to teach local people. Broward County has more than 1.9 million people. It is the second biggest county in Florida. It is the 18th biggest county in the United States. Many people in Broward only live here part of the year. They come here for the warm weather and the ocean. Extension has worked in South Florida since 1939. Our work today is just as important as it was back then.

The Cooperative Extension Service is a program found across the country. It started with the Smith-Lever Act in 1914. State universities, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and county governments all work as a team. Together, they plan, pay for, and run Extension programs. In Florida, the University of Florida runs the Cooperative Extension Service.
