Who We Are
Welcome to our website! We hope you find the information helpful and up-to-date. Broward County Extension brings useful resources and knowledge from the University of Florida’s experts right to you through our Extension programs. Over the years, we have helped millions of people in Broward County use research-based ideas to improve their homes, businesses, and communities.
UF/IFAS Extension offers educational programs to local people. Broward County has more than 1.9 million residents. It is the second largest county in Florida and the 18th largest in the United States. Many people in Broward live here only part of the year, enjoying the warm climate and ocean. Since 1939, Extension has been active in South Florida, teaching the community. Our work is still just as important today as it was back then.
The Cooperative Extension Service is a nationwide program started by the Smith-Lever Act in 1914. It is a partnership between state universities, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and county governments across the country. These groups work together to plan, fund, and run Extension programs. In Florida, the University of Florida manages the Cooperative Extension Service.
